How are you doing buddy? Momma sure enjoyed talking to your momma this past week. You'd think they'd let us meow on the phone too but HAA! that seems to only allowed for girls to do. It figures!!

Momma and I hope you haven't had any bad storms this past week. There sure have been a lot of them the past few days. It's been raining most of the week here. I've spent a lot of time cat napping. I've also had a chance to do a lot of squirrel watching. Those little bushy tailed critters sure are fun to watch.

I sure miss pawing with you buddy but we understand that your momma has her paws free with all you kitties.

AHHHHH........Momma can't believe it! She had to report for jury selection on Tuesday and they picked her to be on a jury. She tried her best not to be but they picked her anyway. She doesn't have to report for jury duty until March 21 but it's something she really didn't want to do. OH WELL! Poor Momma; I guess I should get her to use catnip. I certainly calms me down. MOL.

How are you doing buddy? Did you get a lot of snow? I sure hope that those girls aren't running cat-tails over you.

We got some snow on Tuesday night but momma wishes we had gotten more 'cause what we got was mixed with rain. We're suppose to get some more snow tonight. Momma sure loves snow.

Momma and I hope that your momma is doing OK. Maybe she can talk my momma out of adopting or fostering other kitties after we move. What do you think? I'm not sure I like the idea of sharing her with anyone.

2/26/13 Final Tuesday as King Barney! +15
By Friday Morning you will have a new Queen JosieMae#193862 and we will be sleeping in, so we can come come back and begin blogging on our own schedules, as our ordinary selves. We want everyone to know it has been decided to have the official Coronation on Thursday 2/28/13 at 7:30pmEST, 6:30Central, 4:30Pacific. We also want to let you know that since we have received so many positive comments on our rescue blogs, we would like to continue bringing you stories, though on a less regular schedule, say twice a month or more, if mom is up to it. We will continue to leave them on the Inspiration page, so you may also consider that a reading room for our stories. We are still looking for the battery charger to get the camera up and running and will add pictures from our stories on the Inspiration page too.

Well, we did promise to finish Rosebud's story and mostly just to tell what a special kitty she was and how she ruled the house in her day. Once she came to mom the second time, there was no doubt she was going to stay. Mom's friend knew how much mom loved Rosebud and said Rosebud was too old to make more changes. She did tell her too, how feisty a cat Rosebud was in her youth. She got along with Midnight in the house, but if she happened to get outside, she had no qualms about chasing the largest of dogs out of her yard! Once she settled in with mom, she had a few other tricks up her sleeve, so to speak. Not that she wore sleeves. This was still during the time of Pasha the Great and, as you might remember, he had to be kept away from other cats, because he simply didn't accept them. Well, one afternoon mom returned from work to find Rosebud in her room, curled up by the heat register, with Pasha and Agatha! She was grooming Pasha and simply gave mom a look to say, "I'm in control now." Mom almost fainted, but it wasn't a one time occurrence. From that time on, Rosebud was part of a trio.

Rosebud did have her weaknesses when it came to health and some of them serious, like her allergies to fish and antibiotics. Before mom figured out the fish allergy, it meant several runs to the vet and it is not easy to find catfood without fish in it! Rosebud's face and ears would turn bright red when she ate anything with fish and she would vomit, with symptoms becoming progressively worse as time went on. Mom knew about human's with fish allergies and she searched for catfood without fish, finally discovering Wellness Chicken and Turkey flavors, with no added fish oils. The problem with many foods are that while the label says chicken, fish oil is added as a supplement. That is great for most cats, but can be deadly for one with allergies. She also was sensitive to many commonly used antibiotics, which made things difficult in times of illness. Luckily, she was a very healthy cat, for the most part.

So that was Angel Rosebud's story for the most part. She is a very special kitty in mom's heart and lived well into her teens.

That's so sad, we was a very pretty orange fluffy senior boy, and I remember he was looking for a forever home. Looks like he might have found the most special home to finish his days in ... yours! 2/19/13 Happy Tuesday to You From King Barney!
Hey friends! Think we knew you long ago and lost track! Trying to connect again.
The temp is +5, but a windchill of -14. The good mews is that its the warmest temp in our state. Can you believe that this month is more than halfway over! I do hope you have been enjoying it and your time with us at the castle. We have also been enjoying JosieMae's blogs and we remind all to vote for her page#193862 daily, so she can be Queen of March.

Well the bad mews is that mom is still looking for the camera charger, but the good is that we will have another pic to go with today's story when she finds it. I thought I would tell the story of her first visit to the Golden Valley Humane Society, Golden Valley, MN, not far from us. It was shortly after her grandmother had passed and during the time of Angels Pasha and Agatha. She was job hunting and found a notice of an opening in Humane Education for the Humane Society. Now, at that time she knew she didn't qualify for it, but she wanted the info.
It sure was an interesting trip too. They gave a tour of the facilities, including the adoption areas, which included dogs, cats and other critters. The cats were kept both in cages and had large free rooms, where they were given time out of the cages. Well, I'm sure many of your pawrents know the danger of visiting the cat area of the Humane Society and mom didn't get out free either. As she walked through a stripped orange paw came out of a cage she passed and grabbed her arm. Mom stopped and said hi, removing the claws from her clothing and giving the cat a pat. She turned to leave and again she felt a tap and the claws grabbed her firmly. Again, she stopped to pet the cat. His eye caught hers, as if to say "get me out!" Mom thought about it, but she had Pasha at home and knew she had been told he was not good with other cats. Anyway, she continued her tour, but had to pass this cat once more on the way out. She did not even have him in mind, when the same paw stopped her one last time. The eyes pleaded--- "Please lady, I need to get out of here--- lets blow this pop-stand!" This time she asked about him and his adoption fee. It was only $35.00, with a gift certificate for a low cost neuter. That day Grisha, which is what mom named him, escaped with mom to a new life! It wasn't the end of their adventures, because, although mom kept him in the guest room and had him neutered immediately, he did not get along with Pasha, who wanted to kill him--- no doubt about it.

As usual, we will have to turn this into a two-parter and finish on Thursday. This story has a wonderful ending, so stay tuned. Grisha was a really sweet cat, downright irresistible cat, and even though mom knew it wouldn't work to keep him with Pasha, he was never going back to the Humane Society.

3707 ~*~ SUCH A BAD, BAD BOY ~*~
The temperature was high 46 & low was 42 this morning, now it's 46 with humidity 86% & wind is 0 MPH. Saturday's suppose to be Showers & High 49.

♥ It twas another short sleepy Knight last night for mom as Whyskrs 10378 continues with his wake up calls for mom. This time was a different wake up as he had Sassee 10605 by the neck as he was trying to act like a tom. Sassee's loud cries had awakened mom as Whyskrs was biting Sassee's neck hard. He got in trouble and mom picked Sassee up to soothe her and check her out. Needless to say, mom will be keeping watch on Sassee's neck. After things were quiet again and mom back to sleep, a little later she was awakened again, to see Whyskrs on top of Sassee!!!! Whyskrs got in trouble again then mom put Sassee on the bed with dad.

♥ Mom made a big pot of Beef Stew this morning with potatoes, baby carrots, celery, can tomatoes, can corn, onions, beef stew meat seared with onions then added to the rest of the stew then she let it simmer for about an hour on the stove. The house smelled good and dad said it was also good.

♥ After I went potty this morning, I was feeling so good that I went racing into the kitchen then jumped up on the window bed in the front room with a big ole loud MEOW!!!! Mom said I was a silly boy!!!! Tehehehe!!!!

Hi all kitties. Well here we are to continue this hillbilly way article on moonshine

HOW THE BESTOF THE BEST WAS MADE

For this section, two men who are reputed to have made some of the best to come out of Georgia tell how they did it

Go to the wood and find a good place. Make a mudhole which contains plenty of good thick red clay for use in the furnace. Also construct any water lines needed for the flake stand
Choose the corn. Do not use a hybrid or yellow corn. Use a good fresh pure white corn which will produce about 3 quarts of whiskey per bushel. Get nine and a half bushels.
Put at least a bushel and half of corn aside to sprout
In winter, put this corn in a barrell or tub, add warm water, and leave it for 24 hours. Then drain it and move it to the sprouting tub. Cover it with pretty warm water, leave it for 15 minutes and drain the water off. Put the tub close to a stove and turn the cold side to the stove at least once a day and so on
In summer simply put the corn out in the sun in tow sacks and sprinkle warm water over them once a day and flip the sacks over.
Take the remainder 8 bushels of corn to be ground up. Take this meal to the woods the last 3 or 4 days should have been spent building the furnace and installing the still. Build a fire under the still. Fill it nearly full with water and stir in a half bushel of corn meal. When it comes to a boil, let it bubble for 35 to 40 minutes. Cook it wll or it will puke too much when cooking later. When it has cooked sufficiently, bring one of the barrels over. Put it under the slop arm of the still, push in the plug stick and let the contents of the still fill the barrel. Add a gallon of yet uncooked meal and let the hot contents of the barrel cook it alone. Make sure it is stirred in well. Move the barrel aside and repeat the whole process until all the meal is cooked, and all 7 barrels are filled. Go home.

Oh boy, Harry! It is great to hear from you and I'm doing the happy dance. We hope you and your family have all been well. We are all fine here.

I'm glad you have been good and not getting into too much trouble. Have you been fishing? It's probably too cold unless you like to ice fish. Your car is really cute; the Love Bug. :)

How nice that you have three little girls that your sweet mommy is fostering. I'll bet you enjoy having them around and teaching them new things. We would love to see pictures of them when your mom gets a chance to send them.

How strange to get tornadoes in the middle of Winter! We think that is scary since this didn't used to be tornado season. Yes, we have had some rain and are actually just shy of normal for rainfall so far this year. But it has been strange here too. We have been breaking records for coldness and then the next week breaking records for heat! We have gone from 17 degrees to 81 within the same week. This is not normal for us and the poor cacti don't seem to like it much either. Well, it's hard to tell with them and takes a few years to see if the cold injures them.

That is good news that you aren't interested in going outside anymore. It's best to be inside where it is warm and filled with love and food. That is also great news about Rowdy and we hope he continues to gain weight and do well.

Grandma is still doing good. She seems to be in a good place now, physically and mentally she is doing okay. Mom is still working and so is daddy, which is good since they need to keep us in food and litter. :)

Harry, Winslow has tuned up my Magic Carpet and it is ready to go. Would you like to come to Tucson for a visit? Maybe we can then fly down to Acapulco and hang out. You could do some fishing and we can go whale watching. How does that sound?

Please excuse the c/p but I want to make sure I get to everyone today.

I want to start off by meowing my deepest thanks to everyone that came by on the 10th to honor my crossing anniversary. It was hard for mommy to let me go & she made the vet run every test available to make sure I really had FIP before she made the final decision to help me across the Rainbow Bridge. My suffering was ended but mom's heart was broken since I was one of her special rescues. Not wanting mom to stay sad I helped guide dad to Trixie at a pet shop they never go to the following month, even though mom was reluctant at first.
I knew she would help fill the void in mom's heart but I also know I'll never be forgotten.
Because of your visits & votes I won my 4th COTD badge yesterday so with happy, angelic purrs I've come by to thank you for making it happen. CC furiends are outstanding, loving, & very supportive so thank you SO much for being who you are & don't ever change because you're purrfect like you are.

PRESERVING CONTINUED TODAY

PICKLING

Be sure that the signs are not in the bowels. When the moon is new is the best time to make kraut, pickle beans, corn or green tomatoes. If the signs are in the bowels, they will be slimy or soft and not fit to eat.

SOUR KRAUT
Select firm cabbage heads and chop. Have a clean churn jar, usually 5 gallon, and pack the jar with alternating layers of choped cabbage and a sprinkling of salt, usually a half cup salt per gallon of cabbage. You need not add water as the cabbage will produce it’s own.

When the jar is filled, cover the cabbage with a clean white cloth, large cabbage leaves, or a saucer. The place a flat flint rock or other weight on top of this to hold the cabage under the brine. Let this stand ten day, or as long as necessary to get it as sour as you want.

When this is completed, take the kraut out and pack it in canning jars. Then put the jars in a pot of water and bring to a boil to both seal the jars and cook the cabbage. Some folks like to leave it in the churn, but it turns dark. Some add hot pepper to the churn for additional flavoring

PICKLE BEETS
Boil beets six to 8 hours until soft, and the skin slips off easily. Drain the water, peel the beets and cut the into small cubes. Put the beets into a large pot and for every quart, add a cup each of sugar and vinegar. Bring the mixture to a boil. Stirring once in a while. Put into cans and seal.

Thank you for pawing by last week to check on me after my teeth cleaning. I did really well, Mommy was the nervous one. I am brave, Mommy not so much! Now my choppers are all white & shiny! I am still sleeping a lot, mostly in Nana’s lap. That might have a lot to do with our weather.

It has been raining here since yesterday & is still raining today. We are under a Flash Flood Watch. We are supposed to receive between 5 and 7 inches of rain from yesterday through tomorrow. Unreal. Yesterday we were under a Tornado Watch all day until 11 p.m.. Several tornadoes touched down in south Mississippi yesterday. The biggest one was in Hattiesburg which is about 2 hours south of us. It damaged over 300 homes & buildings and more than 60 people were injured. Mommy’s alma mater USM (University Of Southern Mississippi) was heavily damaged. The news said it looked just like when Hurricane Katrina came through there. So sad to see so much destruction and lives changed in an instant. Please keep everyone affected by those tornadoes in your prayers.

How are you buddy? I'm so glad to hear from you. Momma was just thinking about your momma and hoping that she's OK. I need to get her to paw your momma.

Momma, Kieara, Timothy, and I are so saddened to learn of Brandon's passing. We know that all of you must miss him very much; but remember that he's with the Lord in Heaven and someday you'll see him again.

I love your new wheels buddy. That's one pawtastic car! Gee, I agree with you fella; sisters aren't much fun. If you try wrestling with them, a guy can get in so much trouble. My momma says she wants to adopt one or two new kitties once we move - one girl and one boy. WHAT IS SHE THINKING!!

We've got snow but momma was a bit disappointed that we didn't get in on the big snow they had out East. She hopes we get more snow this Winter 'cause she loves it. Do you have any snow?

Happy Caturday! King Barney and family visits---
Hey friends--- do hope you and the family are well. Just coming by on a purrsonal visit today and hope all is well. We are still waiting on snow here and not sure how much is coming. Mom's left knee is bothering her. She did a lot of walking both Wednesday and Friday. She really needs some better walking shoes for winter, but her feet are wide and hard to fit. She enjoys walking and the knee problem is very frustrating. Hope to see everyone again on Tuesday with another story and plans for the Valentines Day Ice Carnival.

It's a wonderful life
Philip Van Doren Stern (1900-1984) began a short story, The Greatest Gift", in 1939. He was inspired by a dream, and reminiscent of the 1843 Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol. Stern shared 200 printed copies in 1943 with friends as a year-end cards after numerous publisher rejections.
Luckily, the pamphlet came to the attention of a RKO movie producer who purchased the rights. Frank Capra's production company saw the movie potential. He paid $10,000 for the rights in 1945. Stern's story was adapted into the most loved and memorable American family film, "It's a Wonderful Life" in 1946. Director Capra's inventiveness, humor and affection for human beings keep it glowing with life and excitement.
On Xmas eve, George Bailey's guardian angel shows him all the lives he touched and how different life in his community would be had he never been born. Although George repeatedly sacrifices his dream to travel the world, he realizes "No man is a failure who has friends."

Ah Gee
I'm sorry that we missed your birthday buddy. All of us hope that it was purrtastic. How is your momma doing? Hope she's feeling OK. My momma has been meaning to call her. I think she did e-mail her recently.

Momma had a "busy" visit with her sister last month. They went through box after box and discovered a lot of hidden treasures. Timothy's poppa drove momma's sister home earlier this month. While they were gone momma went through some of her boxes that she had stored in the basement and got rid of things she didn't want. It's been a busy month and a half.

I (on behave of myself and my sibligs)am leaving you some Lake Superior whitefish, chuncky catnip browies with mice-cream, and a mouse that moves automaticly when you pat it to help you celebrate your special day.

Remember us? It is Sienna and family. We are wishing you a Happy Birthday and hoping you and your family are well. It's funny because we were thinking about you and your momma this morning and today we saw it was Angel Elvis' birthday too.

All of us are doing well but we did loose two furry kids this year: Ms Fraidy and Cheyenne. They were only 12 and 13 respectively but both were suffering from renal failure. Otherwise, we are holding at 8.
