What I love about my owners: In addition to posting data from shelter web sites, we will be assigning a
star rating system. One * terrible, two ** poor, three *** satisfactory,
four **** good, and five ***** excellent. Stars will be assigned by
evaluation of eight services: 1) adoption, 2) lost & found, 3)
investigations of cruelty, neglect and abuse, 4) rescue & emergency
services, 5) reducing tragic overpopulation, 6) humane education, 7)
foster care program, and 8) spay/neuter services. Also consideration
will be given for no kill status, non-profit, fund raising programs and # of
animals receiving services. This is only our assessment awarded on
details posted on web sites. Not all sites include the same information,
so a low star rating does not necessarily mean the shelter is not
effective.

How We Met
Acceptance Speech for running for COTM:
I am so very thrilled to have been chosen for this wonderful honor to run
for the special priviledge of COTM! To follow the outstanding kitties who
have earned this prestigious award is a dream come true. The platforms
that have been offered have been very impressive and trying to find a unique and interesting format for August has been challenging.
I have noticed in visiting friends on CC that profiles state basically four ways kitties have come to their forever homes: 1) breeder, 2) shelter/rescue, 3) stray, and 4) family and friends. I must thank my catpaign manager, brother Dean, who has helped lay the groundwork by
requesting information from friends in a survey. We sent out over 35
survey requests to kitties we noticed came from a shelter or rescue, as stated in their profile. We were very pleased with the response we got.
Obviously many kitties and their pawrents are very proud of their shelters, as well they should be, and provided us with lots of details and web sites.
We found this information very interesting and I plan to use my daily blogs to describe different shelter/rescues from around the country, mentioning which kitties originated from them. I hope you will all find this enlightening.
I am also requesting you all support the Animal Rescue Site, ARS, daily.

Mom thinks she can trap the kittens. They will go in the carrier to eat and she can slam the door. The main thing is getting Josie spayed. Then the Toms will leave and things can calm down. MimiCome visit me, Mimi 184008 & J.C..

That's great about the hospital and the doctor.
Our mom drove her neighbor to their surgeon yesterday, they also went shopping and had a big lunch. The neighbor checkout okay. Our mom got her to see the surgeon for a second opinion when the kind of knee surgery she was scheduled for sounded very worrying to our mom. Ever since then -- it has been 9 months now, the neighbor is always so grateful to mom and they both tell everyone about how great this dr. is.
It bring great comfort to us kitties to know mom will be walking to the cat food drawer with no problems... as she's getting older we may have to remind her just where the drawer is located, but...

Getting Josie won't be easy. Josie goes in the carrier, but as soon as she sees Mom she runs. She is going to have to get used to her food being in it. Additional problem is Mom is pretty old and slow. MimiCome visit me, Mimi 184008 & J.C..

sorry i haven't been by..mom has had a case of the lazies, i think..but at least she finally got her garden planted today..now, she hopes everything grows and she won't have to do it all over again..
yeah..wierd weather..last week we had record lows and snow..and yesterday we had a high of 101..boy, are we ever confused..those ol' trees sure are budding, too..maybe spring..or should i say summer..is finally here..

I can't believe we had frost this AM. The field next door was covered with frost. Very beautiful, for FEBUARY! When I was at the vet, Mom told him to micro chip me! I was so scared! I thought he was going to chip me into microscopic pieces! I mean like I am a good cat and don't deserve that. I was so relieved when I found that it was just an ID tag for inside. a votey & a BIG purr
Ohh.. an electric mower... that's what mom wants after she sells her gas self-propeller in the yard sale.
But yesterday for the first time she used her lightweight, lithium battery weed whacker. She never used one before this and we never saw one before. oK. all it is a an outdoor vacuum cleaner for what the rider doesn't get.
And the battery latest as long as she did... vibrates the carpel tunnel a lot.
Getting an excellent orthopedic surgeon is vital. mom's best friend hurt her should before we moved up here to live near her. By her own stubborness she refused to go to one of the shoulder experts for surgery because he was out of town (I think se wanted her family to visit her or something) anyway, the Dr. who did the surgery hadn't a clue how to fix all the shattered parts but her did something. Then his partner went in and "fixed" it. By the time she got the shoulder to the expert out of town it was too damaged to ever have use of the shoulder again. He fixed what he could. She has half use of her left arm.
We have a local friend (cat rescue where Gracie T-t came from (why can't they take that annoying kitten back??) who has had one knee operated on a couple of times by a local orthopedic Dr. Screwed up. She fell on her steps last week. Now the other local Orthopod-- one who ruined Ellen's shoulder forever-- is going to work on it. And mom is trying to decide if it is worthwhile trying to get her knee looked at by her best knee guy who did both of hers at once. She is reluctant to say anything because people are so resistant to try a better Dr. instead of local and familiar. Same thing with two friends who have had eye surgery. The only Dr. in the area does all these surgeries and has a terrible success rate. they think it has to do with the odds of getting the surgery. NO. It is how he screws them up. But they will not listen to mom who had one lens replaced with a surgeon in a larger town. That Dr. has a terrific success rate. It is their eyes for heaven's sake!!
Anyway, mom says that if yours is going to the same practice that messed her knee up before then she needs to get a second opinion elsewhere with a highly regarded/rated surgeon. She thinks your mom won't listen to her...

Oh, and the bilateral replacements were MUCH better (after the first 10 days) than a single knee. It takes 3 months for therapy with one or two. the therapy is the torture. Why have 6 months instead of three.

so sorry about your mom's knee therapy! my mom had to do range of motion exercises after her neck surgery but that's not painful. so much swelling in the knee usually. hope it feels better for mother's day. Come visit me, Sunni!.

Good to hear that your mom is improving with the p/t. Sounds like that Nancy isn't gonna let your mom slide on any sessions, mol! I bet your mom isn't buying the old adage, " no pain, no gain" ! But it really is true, gotta work through it, the soreness, that is, not real searing pain.

I'm so happy your Mom's p/t is going well. It might be hard for a while, but that she walked down to pay her taxes is wonderful. I hope your Mom felt a great feeling of accomplishment. Mom got her camera fixed and posted photos of my new sibs. Now the Jeep is broke. Don't know what is wrong. It started running hot. The dealer picked it up. Guess we'll hear soon enough. I'm glad you all had a good time at my Adoptiversary pawty. I'm sure glad you could make it. So, you've been having April showers in May, eh? It must be beautiful with everything so green. Remember, we live in the middle of the Sonoran Desert. And my Mama's home State, Texas, has been in drought for many years. We're praying for them to have some good rain. Hi, Anderson: The bad thing is - mom has no idea what she did to her knees. They just don't want to go up and down stairs. Sometimes they ache other times, too. Then she'll get them that they're feeling pretty good and suddenly they're bad again! Very frustrating for her. Hi, Anderson: Mom and dad used to be Flyers fans, especially when they were affiliated with Hershey. Now they go to the rink in York to watch high school, Midget, and Gettysburg College hockey - and sometimes the girls. Mom also likes the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Mom sent that picture of the postcard to some people. We think someone "stole" it, but that's okay. It is perfect for MHL. Thunderstorms last night - I hate them! Then it rained overnight. i hope your mom had a very nice stroll to the grocery store and enjoyed being out and having nice weather, too..i bet she felt like a kid again..hope she didn't do any hoppin' or jumpin' or skipping though..hehe
we have had nice weather for the past couple of days now..it sure is nice to turn that ol' heater off and to have the door open...mom finally got all those bare spots in her yard scraped clean and re-seeded the yard..she jsut hopes all the new seeds grow now...and is hoping to plant more of her garden ater this week..it's about time, she says!
