I am an American Shorthair from Oxford, NY
Nicknames: Creative Kitties who are also POETS are invited to post their own poetry here.
At times specific themes will be announced, like the one for Mother's Day. The start and end date and time of a Poetry Theme posting will be announced on CMR. Otherwise PLEASE post any poems anytime you care to.
Flash Poems are announced for very brief and arbitrary time limits.
This is NOT a competition because all poets-- especially Kitty Poets-- are divinely inspired. But every cc member is invited to comment and mew over any poem and poet they admire.
No catbucks will exchange paws and no prizes will be awarded.
If you like a specific poem and wish to mew a comment, please give the title of the poem and if you know it the date/or time it was written. This is very important for poets to read their reviews they need to find them.
All poems are to have the title of the poem as the heading of the entry so others can find them and pour forth praising comments.
And since one poem often inspires another and if it has the same title then please call it by number, such as, "My Mom #2"-- or whatever number is next in sequence.

Hi Poetry Page & Budds
THE SPIDER & THE BEE
I saw a little spider
Climbing up the wall
Asked where it was going
Didn't answer me atall.
My eyes on it didn't stray
As it continued on it's way
I watched it all the day
While on my perch I lay
An amazing miracle took place
Before my eyes I did see
A lacey web so lovely
And in it was a BEE.
It had followed me in the house
When outside the other day
Running from it in fear
Trying to get away!!
What do I do now?
The spider needs to eat.
The Bee needs to make honey.
So I got off of my seat.
Carefull with my claw
A tiny hole I tore
To free the BEE
I would see it no more!!!
Out the window it went
Happily on it's way
But what about the Spider?
Oh what can I say?
Outside I went
Kneeled on the ground
Picking up some ANTS
That were in a big mound.
I brought them to the Spider
And placed them in the hole
For the Spider to eat
And accomplished my goal.
Now I can relax & sleep
Upon my perch I fly
Dreaming of chasing mousies
Did I say "FLY', oh my................

It's summer time again
And that means bees
Everywhere I look
It's bees that I see.

Our Winter response to Bart's"Anticipating Spring"
Springtime is just a thought away...
A thought you shared with us today
Thanks for putting it in our heads
It sure helped get us out of our beds!
We rushed to the window looking for sun
hoping to go out for a little bit o' fun
but stopped in our tracks when we got there
and still saw SNOW piled up EVERYWHERE!

A Cat & Mouse Holiday!
Twas the night before Catmas, & all through the house...
All the kitties were stirring, and so was the mouse....
They heard squeaking and scratching, and took off to hunt....
And found the best present a kitty could want!
But since it was Catmas, they stopped in their tracks
And decided to give the mouse his freedom back....
They all snuggled together in front of the tree
And dreamed about all of the gifts they would see!

The Friskies, the cat Oscar award
An hour and 25 minutes of funny, cute and interesting short feline videos consisting of four categories:
1. CATness: the essence of cat behavior, capture a cat (or multiple cats) just being a cat, moments of pure cat wonder, quirkiness, and delight;
2. CATcom: capture a cat (or multiple cats) in a humorous situation;
3. CATventure: capture an indoor cat (or multiple cats) on an adventure;
4. CATchall: miscellaneous category for Entries that don't fit in to one of the other categories.
Judging criteria:
Originality & overall artistic impression (25%)
Cinematography & overall technical production (15%)
Audience appeal & entertainment quality (15%)
Portraying cat playfulness or quirks (if appropriate) (15%)
Sense that there's a story being told (15%)
Portraying cat's perspective (15%)

So Thankful!
When I think of things I’m thankful for,
It’s family and furiends that mean so much;
I hold them near and dear to my heart.
And hope that we will never part.
I’m thankful for another day
to enjoy the warmth of the sun;
to breathe the fresh air and
run and play until the end

Observing the heavens
The Leonids generally begin on November 13 and end on November 21, with maximum generally occurring during the night of Novemer 17/18. Observers are generally treated to displays of about 10 meteors per hour on the night of maximum. About every 33 years, the Leonids enter a phase of enhanced activity. I watch you with my slits of gold

Since I have nothing much to do
I will just sit and watch you.
My pearly sharp fangs are bared
I wonder if you will be scared

Realizing the vampire cat is here
I make a face so fierce and real

What is that in the dark I see?
Little yellow eyes staring back at me.
A pink nose twitcing at the scent of food~
But abused by humans you're afraid to move~
Crouched in fear and ready for flight~
I am deeply moved by your painful plight~
So day after day we play this game~
Until at long last your trust I have gained!
Chester was such a sweet,loving boy. Sadly,he was the victim of another cruel human who shot him at close range in our yard. We had to help him into forever sleep.

My Beloved Lancelot
Dedicated to Lancelot
My silky, black furry pet of love
My very precious gift from above
Looking at me with his eyes of gold,
He who has given me happiness untold.
My perfect angel kitty who owns my heart,
There he sits, so regal and smart
Waiting patiently for my return,
When we speak of our day, each in turn.
He happily talks and meows, telling me it all
Suddenly the phone rings and I get a call,
So Lancelot takes up residence in my lap,
Curling up for a long awaited nap.
Throughout the years we've grown so close
His unconditional love meaning the most,
He's always there to greet me at the door
How could anyone ask for anything more?
How he calms all the stress and strife
He is the shining, calming light of my life,
When my world is tossing and spinning apart

Dreamy moon....
What is it about the huge and dreamy moon these nights?
Fullness of Fullness,
The silver jewel of moonliness hangs
On the dark breast of August's nightclothes,
Spreading bands of light,
Streaming down from an indigo sky &
Out along the rivers of our farmed landscape.
The corn shocks are flossed a white platinum,
Like liquid mercury pouring into measured
Rows holding dreamy rivers for only this one night,
Corn rows ripening under the moon's spotlight...
All August night.

Angel Kitty
Angel Kitty
She is so very spoiled with her catnip fur mouse
She faces no restrictions any place in the house
And is often carried in an imported kitty pouch
When not asleep atop her designer blanket on the couch.
This soft and furry black, golden-eyed feline
Never begs at the table or upsets my white wine
But chases passing shadows and stops on a dime
This wonderful and angelic phenomenon of mine.
Angel kitty was understanding and a good sport
Helping me recover from a terrible day in court
When I gained our freedom from an unpleasant sort
She provide me with much needed comfort and support.
She doesn't like it when I go on vacation
As it seems to encourage her feline vexation
So spoiled is she that she resents any implication
That I'm gone and has limits on her exploration!
My angel kitty has given me wealth untold
Keeping me safe from the blowing winter cold
Forever amazing me with her personality so bold
Purring softly while gazing with her eyes of gold.

This is a poem written by Sir Malachi and his Mama for his Daddy on Father's Day:
He'll lunch on some tuna,
Then clean up his paws.
We lure him, he lurches,
He'll lunge with his claws.
His voice lusty lyric,
He lurks in the hall.
He tells you he's ready
To play fetch with ball.
He's beauty and spirit
With luxurious fur.
Black luster that's luscious,
And hear his lush purr!
It's luxury sharing
A house with this guy.

Memories of the past helps us realize how blessed we are today, knowing that Ollie, Bouie, Shadow, Chloe and Prissy are healthy and happy.
You gave us so much love, and pleasure,
And a special beauty that will last forever.
Your long black fur with four white feet,
And white whiskers and chin, with a face so sweet.
We can see you now, so very clear,
It's as if you never left us, but were still right hear.
You were so young, very playful, and smart,
You won us all over, you captured our hearts.
You were only with us for three short years,
And when we think how it ended, we come to tears.
You left us so soon, in the prime of your life,
We felt stabbed in the heart, with a very sharp knife.
We tried to help, but there was nothing we could do,
If only we had the cure in time, we might have saved you.
But God allowed other plans to take place,
It's hard to accept, but these things we must face.
And though you left us in a very short time,
You have always remained, forefront in our minds,

We love your idea & would like to add the following about one of our beloved angels:
My silky, black furry pet of love
My very precious gift from above
Looking at me with his eyes of gold,
He who has given me happiness untold.
My perfect angel kitty who owns my heart,
There he sits, so regal and smart
He happily talks and meows, telling me it all
Suddenly the phone rings and I get a call,
So Lancelot takes up residence in my lap,
Curling up for a long awaited nap.
Throughout the years we've grown so close
His unconditional love meaning the most,
He's always there to greet me at the door
How could anyone ask for anything more?
How he calms all the stress and strife
He is the shining, calming light of my life,
When my world is tossing and spinning apart
It's my beloved Lancelot that warms my heart.

Pierre he came on the 25th
A Christmas present was he
He was black and white with a small moustache
And the tiniest black goatee
He never meowed, but always me-AWed
And ate his food with his paw
When he did he was the funniest thing
That anyone ever saw
I loved him so, he loved me too,
Together we had lots of fun
He loved to make his parrot-head squeak
That Pierre, he was the one!
But then just once he stayed out all night
And didn't even go very far
But crossing the street in the dead of the night
He was struck and killed by a car.
May Pierre rest in peace (he deserves to, you know)
In the yard of the Corby plant
And may his grave remain untouched

Autumn Kitten
I found a little kitten in the street
The little cat was barely on his feet
The mama cat had died I don't know how
No one to take care of kitty now.
I picked him up to see if he was hurt
Then tucked him up into my flannel shirt
I knew he wasn't well and he might die
A also knew I simply had to try.
And though he didn't make it after all
I think of him each year during the fall
When leaves are blowing down around my feet

Springtime, Seen Through The Eyes Of A Cat

As I set on my back porch looking out,
I can see all the world around me.
I see the birds soaring through the trees,
I see their wings outstretched as they begin to fly.
I see the squirrels as they search for food,
Jumping from tree to tree and walking on the fence.
I hear the sights and sounds of springtime all around,
Birds singing and chirping, trying to out do each other,
Busy making their nests to raise their young.
I feel A warm breeze rustling my fur,
As I quietly watch and listen with all my senses.
I smell the morning dew and the freshly mowed grass.
I am so contented, just rested and relaxed,
Knowing that God allows me to see what he's made,

Shadow's Enduring Love - by Shadow #225720
I was born on the porch of our neighborhood vet,
And God let Mama have me to love and to pet.
I light up her life in every way
I never claw or bite, I don't run away.
But I'm quite unique, I'm special that way,
Whether sleeping or playing , I always make her day.
I give her special love with just one glance,
As I jump on my cat tree with one long prance.
I push my head up under her hands,
Getting her love as often as I can.
Attention I get, whether I'm perky or sweet ,
She rewards me with love or a temptation treat.
When I rub against her legs, Or lay at her feet,
She just has to pet me, because I'm so sweet.
I fly through the room and jump on her back,
I get her full attention, when I pounce on her like that.
I'm agile and strong, yet gentle and meek.
And she say's I'm as so beautiful, so loving and sweet.
We have each others heart, we're truly entwined,
And we'll always be together, until the end of time.
