Pet food regulation provides uniformity and ease for consumers to compare products. The Food and Drug Administration's Center for Veterinary Medicine enforces the federal regulations, which set standards for all animal feeds, including proper identification, net quantity statement, manufacturer's address and ingredients list. In addition, some states enforce their own labeling laws following model regulations from the Association of American Feed Control Officials. These are more specific, covering such aspects as product name, guaranteed analysis, nutritional adequacy statement and feeding directions. Labels consist of a principal display panel (front panel) and an information display panel.
