Stitch escapes the heat in the bathroom. |
Gordita finds a cool spot on the living room floor. |
It was one of those hot, smothering, no-breeze California days. Unfortunately we don’t have central air. We have one of those little window box fan/air conditioner units and ceiling fans. And since they cut down all of those
fabulous trees we have no shade from the sun.
The boys were all taking naps, including my husband. I had just put a couple ice cubes in the cat water fountain to help keep the water cool. Stitch was lying down in the bathroom which seemed like one of the cooler rooms in the apartment since it’s on the opposite side of the building, and Gordita was lying on her back in the living room with me. And I was pregnant and feeling even more disgusting from the heat.
Gordita looked at me with a “poor you” yet relaxed look on her face. I asked her how she was able to look so relaxed with all that fur on her body in this heat. She ignored me. That’s when I decided that perhaps I ought to lie down on the floor too. It was a fabulous idea.
It wasn’t anything like walking in a freezer or jumping in a swimming pool, but down on the floor, limbs spread out was a lot cooler than sitting on the couch. I guess the cats had the right idea after all.
How do you and your cats keep cool in the heat?
