Stitch has a great time at his cat parties, and entertains the rest of the family, too. |
Every cat has a “cat party” once in a while. You know that moment where one second a cat is lazily sleeping or calmly sitting and then the next second the cat is wild-eyed and dashing around the house. Note that
catnip may or may not be involved. When I lived with my sister we used to refer to this episode as Stitch being on kitty crack. However, now that I have children I figured I ought to be a bit more child-friendly so now I call it a cat party.
The last two weeks I’ve noticed that Stitch has a cat party every morning right as the sun starts peeking through our windows. The morning routine is I get up and feed him. Then I wake the boys up and just as they’re sitting down to have breakfast the sunlight is starting to light the room. That is apparently the cue for Stitch’s cat party to begin.
He darts wildly over the couch, into the hallway, turns around and darts into the kitchen and then up and over the desk onto the couch again. He pauses for short moments to glance at us with wild, big, kitten-like eyes before he does it all over again. Sometimes he’ll try to be sly and sneak up on me if I’m sitting on the couch. He’ll peer over the top of the cushion and then duck down low again if I connect eyes with him. If I pretend he’s not there long enough, he’ll shake his backside and pop up long enough to swat a paw at the edge of the cushion before he runs off again.
The boys have started to enjoy Stitch’s cat parties. They think its great entertainment before they have to go to school. And now almost every time we leave the house we call out “Don’t have any cat parties, Stitch!” He has an occasional late-night cat party. But I’ve observed it’s a little after the sun has come up that is a perfect time for a cat party. Perhaps it’s something in the springtime air?
Does your cat have a specific time that is key for a cat party?
