Stitch Snubs Dry Cat Food

Stitch got a taste of wet food and he wants more.

Stitch is put out that he has to go back to the usual dry cat food.
Stitch enjoyed his special adoptiversary wet-food snack a bit too much last Wednesday. The following day he decided that he ought to be fed wet food all the time. I woke up that Thursday morning to find that Stitch still had dry food in his bowl. He was meowing at me to feed him. I shook the food in the bowl and put a little bit more on top to see if he was just having issues with wanting “fresh" new food.

That wasn’t the case. By his dinnertime feeding he had barely touched his food and was continuing to meow (yell) at me to feed him. I looked in his bowl and saw that some of the dry food was crumbly so I gave him some new whole-looking food. He took one look at his bowl and proceeded to tell me what he thought.

By Friday he was still snubbing the dry food. He meowed (yelled) at me all day about how hungry he was. I continued to tell him that he has food in his bowl. By Friday night I'd had it. My husband had some friends over and Stitch was going up to them and asking them to feed him the delicious food I wasn’t feeding him. I picked him up and brought him over to his bowl to show him that he had delicious food in it. He meowed (yelled) at me some more. And before I could stop myself I pointed at his bowl and said “Do you know how many starving kitties there are out there that would be thankful for just a bite of that delicious food?” This didn’t convince him to eat his food and I felt a little foolish. But that was my stance.

By Saturday he was starting to eat some of the dry food again, but only a bite or two. I had some friends over later that night, including my mom. Stitch tried asking them for food so I picked him up and brought him over to my chair for a little time-out. My mom asked him why he was begging for food and he sat there without a good answer.

By Sunday morning the food bowl was empty. I guess he finally realized the dry food was what he was going to get and if he didn’t eat it then he wasn’t going to eat. I assume the special wet food snack is still a dream he’s waiting to come true again. But at least he’s eating his food again.

Have any of your cats ever decided that their food just wasn’t going to cut it anymore?

That is so funny! Cats can be so stubborn and it is very hard to wait them out. My kitties get schedule fed, so they are more than ready to eat. However, they get canned food once a day and they KNOW when it is time for it and demand it very loudly. Poor Stitch!
