Stitch snuggles up to Tristan after they made their bargain. |
I am fairly certain that Stitch and Tristan are in cahoots with each other. I’ve watched them this past week and have noticed a difference. It all started one morning when Tristan was watching some cartoons. I looked over and watched Stitch, who usually stays as far away from the child when he is awake, jump up on Tristan and lay down for a snuggle. I snapped a photo of the incident as proof that I was not delusional and to prove later on to Kevin that Stitch has grown some sort of fondness for the boy. Tristan was rather gentle in petting Stitch and the duo actually stayed like that for a while until the end of the cartoon show.
It was about a day later when I caught Stitch jumping up on the dinner table and licking the surface. He’s never done this before; at least I’ve never caught him doing this before. And considering I’m home almost all day long I’d notice something like that. He received the “down” command and after getting one more good lick in, he complied and jumped down. The main point of this is that he was licking the tabletop where Tristan sits.
Tristan has a nasty habit of finger-painting food onto the tabletop while he’s eating. Somehow he manages to get foods and food juices onto his hands. And instead of using his napkin (which I promise we are working on) he smears his hands on the table surface and I’ve even seen him drawing circles and squiggles. Now usually I’m pretty good about cleaning this up. However, I obviously missed something because Stitch had a field day helping me clean.
That’s when the image of Stitch and Tristan on the couch popped into my head and the light bulb went on. Those little stinkers were working together in a secret agreement! Tristan would leave traces of delicious food for Stitch to lick up, and in return Stitch would allow Tristan to snuggle and pet him. It was the only solution I could come up with for Stitch’s sudden affinity for Tristan and the bold move of jumping up and licking the dinner table clean.
Now, if you ask me I think that Tristan is getting the raw end of the deal. But if he’s happy with it then I guess I’m not going to stir the pot. They do say that cats train their owners. Why not train the whole family?
