Tristan just celebrated a birthday and one of the gifts he brought home was a motorized hamster play set. I’m talking about three hamsters that come to life with the touch of a finger. They squeal and jingle and they move around in their little hamster home, in the hamster wheel, the hamster ball and the hamster car. (Don’t ask, I didn’t design it!) And within a week the motorized hamsters have lost their luster. They have been sitting in a box in the boys’ room.
However, all is not lost. Those motorized hamsters are the perfect cat toys! I’m fairly certain that Stitch thinks Tristan brought those motorized hamster cat toys home for him. They’re small enough to hit around and aren’t too scary looking. But they’re big enough to not get lost under the couches or refrigerator. And they move all on their own. There are no human-powered efforts required to make them move.
Although the issue of them not wanting to move as smoothly as they did when they were first taken out of the box has come up. But the creators of these toys must have kept cats in mind. These hamsters not only squeal and jingle, but they crow and moo, too! (At least that’s what it sounds like to me.) And these sounds are rather offensive to cats, either that or they’re a taunting war cry of “Bring it, Cat!” Because the sounds alone perk up Stitch’s ears and cause an onslaught of paw batting, foot kicking and whacking.
It is not the finest of the cat on hamster attack, but I did manage to get a small clip of Stitch’s first encounter with one of the motorized hamster cat toys for your entertainment.
