Me and the Glamour Puss Award
This past weekend, all the movers and shakers in the cat world were in White Plains, N.Y., for the Cat Writers Conference and awards banquet.

I go to many industry events that people bring their pets to but no one ever brings a cat along to this annual get-together.

I think Fudge would have loved it!

She would have been able to butt heads with panelists at the various discussion groups, which were part of the program. She would have participated in the workshops on social networking. But best of all she would have enjoyed the luncheons and dinners that included shrimp, salmon and chicken dishes.

The Cat Writers Association hands out an award called the Muse in recognition of excellence in all forms of the media from the written, to the spoken word and visual arts as well. The award itself is a large medallion with a cat in the design.

Fudge
Fudge loves to sit in front of the computer.
Fudge should definitely have been there because after all, she is my muse.

Both she and my late Cali were there every step of the way when I wrote my book, "Fabulous Felines: Health and Beauty Secrets for the Pampered Cat." And it would have been appropriate because the book won the Hartz Glamour Puss Award.

In fact, I never realized how much of a role cats played in my writing life until Cali passed away earlier this year. For more than a week I couldn’t put pen to paper. Words simply wouldn’t flow. It was then that I realized that it is only when there is a cat near my desk that I am in the right frame of mind to write.

Cali
Cali was great at “research” and knew exactly on which files to snooze.
I am truly lucky. Fudge gets to work with me every day. Not only is she my muse but she amuses, too.

My condolences to you. I get CAT FANCY MONTHLY, and when I finished the January issue, I realized you only mentioned one cat. When I recently received my February issue, I kept meaning to log on cat channel to see if anything happened that I missed. Thank you for your entertaining column, and for being a wonderful cat meowmy. (((((hugs))))

Congratulations on your award. My three kitties are my muses and provide much fodder for my blog, Crazy for Cats. Every time I'm at the computer, at least one is right next to me or parading back and forth between me and the keyboard.

Congratulations on your Muse award. It was great to meet you at the conference.

Amber is my muse. Or should that be mewse? She's the inspiration behind my blog, The Conscious Cat (www.consciouscat.net). She spends most of her days on the window perch next to my desk. Her job is to sleep and inspire while I write!

I'm sorry about your Cali. It sounds like Fudge is stepping up to the plate.
