Gimme Kittens

Cute kitten photos are a great breath of fresh air between assignments.

How could this face not put a smile onto yours?

In between planning for Cat College, visiting Tippi Hedren’s wild cat sanctuary, and the more mundane tasks of dotting i’s, crossing t’s and writing cover blurbs for Cat Fancy’s May issue, a short breather is more than welcome. And what better way to fill in that rare pocket of time than looking at pictures of cute kittens?

Last week, my fellow editors and I cooed and oohed over the absolutely adorable pictures that readers sent in of their kittens for the cute kittens contest in CAT FANCY magazine and on CatChannel.com. We voted for our favorites, which wasn’t an easy task. Like the picture of Moe, whose kitten curiosity shines through as he carefully inspects the toy in front of him, or Skooter, who seems to be saying, “I’m here, world,” all these pictures reminded me of how much I love kittens. Let’s face it: Resistance is futile.
Pictures like this can relax even the most hectic of people.

Great article - there is something about the combination of what appears to be innocence in a kitten, but the "hard wiring" is still there.

I always appreciated the three kittens that were born in our family room. Their mother, Lexie, was a feral - born and raised outside by her mother. When Lexie was still a kitten, she often wanted to come into the kitchen to eat, and amazingly, sleep; then she would let us know when she wanted out.

When she was pregnant, she still wanted in, but ate more and rested longer. Finally, on Mothers Day, May 10, 2009, she came in, she meowed loudly, and went under a chair in the family room, and proceeded to give birth to her three kibs. We've greatly enjoyed them.
