In just a few days, I’m putting down my pen and heading to Kauai, the fourth largest island in the Hawaiian archipelago.
Although I fully plan to soak in the sun and salty air and take a temporary mental break, I know my love for cats will follow me thousands of miles over the Pacific. I plan to keep an eye out for the astonishing population of feral cats that inhabit the islands, that

Speaking of animals, did you know that Kauai is home to thousands of wild chickens? It might take me a day or two to realize that startling noise in the morning isn’t my alarm clock. Ah, the stress of island living.
