Heading to the Islands

I will be vacationing in Kauai, but cats won't be out of mind.

Feral cat
In just a few days, I’m putting down my pen and heading to Kauai, the fourth largest island in the Hawaiian archipelago.

Although I fully plan to soak in the sun and salty air and take a temporary mental break, I know my love for cats will follow me thousands of miles over the Pacific. I plan to keep an eye out for the astonishing population of feral cats that inhabit the islands, that CAT FANCY contributor Cimeron Morrissey wrote about so beautifully just a few months ago.

Speaking of animals, did you know that Kauai is home to thousands of wild chickens? It might take me a day or two to realize that startling noise in the morning isn’t my alarm clock. Ah, the stress of island living.

I will have to pass this on to my friends daughter who is going there for her honeymoon. She loves kitties too. Chickens? Interesting.
