The birds love to feast on the balcony, while Baby loves to stalk inside. |

Since I work full time, I have to leave my cats alone all day. I have created an atmosphere for them so they have things to amuse them during the day, including two 5-foot-tall scratching posts, a cat tunnel and a toy box full of cat toys. But the best thing I did was hang a bird feeder outside on my balcony.
The bird feeder is situated so the cats have prime viewing from the top of my recliner, and also from a large sliding glass door. They can also sit on the dining table for great birdwatching. I even put one of their beds in front of the slider so they can curl up in there and still watch the birdies.
I recently bought some birdseed specially formulated for songbirds. Apparently, the birds really like it because I have even more birds than before. There are finches and lots of other birds, especially in the mornings and evenings. The cats are enthralled and spend hours just observing or stalking.
I don’t let the cats on the balcony, so the birdies are safe. Baby would love to go for them, and even charges the screen once in a while, which of course scares the birds But the birds seem to know the cats can’t get to them and are soon back munching away. This morning Baby was sitting by the slider and one bird actually flew down and taunted him, flapping his wings right in front of Baby. I had to laugh watching him. I guess the bird feeder amuses me, too!
