Zooey curls up in my blanket at naptime. |
I was feeling kind of tired this weekend, so I indulged myself in a nap. I don’t usually have time to sleep during the day, so it was quite a treat for me. It was also a treat for the cats.
I’m not sure how they knew, but as soon as I was prone, all three cats joined me and curled up around my body. I hadn’t told them I was taking a nap — they just appeared.
I have noticed this phenomenon before. No matter what the cats are doing, even sleeping in a favorite spot, they sense the minute I hit the bed and join me. The weird thing is they don’t exhibit the same behavior at night.
When it is bedtime, one or two will join me right away and eventually all three will be sleeping on me, but it isn’t right away. I wonder what it is about naps that they find so appealing. And how do they know? Maybe I was going into the bedroom for another reason. They don’t always follow me in there, especially not all three of them.
So I’ve come to the conclusion that cats must have a special nap radar. I don’t think there is any other logical explanation.
What do you think? Do your kitties do the same thing?
