Cats Just Want to Be Close to You

Cat lover Suzanne Stowe blogs about having writer's block, in the form of a cat.

Baby
Baby parades back and forth between the computer and Suzanne Stowe when she is trying to write.
Most of the time when you hear the term “writer’s block,” you think that someone is having difficulty putting their ideas on paper. In my case, it is something completely different. I have no problem coming up with ideas, but the actual typing them into my computer proves to be a challenge.

You may ask why, but I bet if you have kitties in your house and a computer, you experience the same thing.  My three Siamese consider it a prime opportunity for petting everytime I sit down to use my laptop. The worst offender is Baby, who parades back and forth between my body and the keyboard, whapping me in the face with his tail. If I don’t pet him, he looks up at me and meows in my face until I get the message, stop what I’m doing, and give him the attention he wants.  His purrs make it all worthwhile.

Then there is Zooey. She likes to sit on my left arm while I’m at the keyboard. If I’m typing and take my arm out from under her, she’ll go behind the laptop and hang out there. She’ll sneak back on to my arm at the first opportunity.

And if the other two kitties aren’t up on the desk, Chloe takes advantage and jumps up. She’ll sit on my left side and meow at me until I pet her. Eventually she’ll tire of it and will go to sleep in the recliner located next to my desk.

My old kitty Meeser, used to sit on my lap whenever I was on the computer. At least that way I could type.

I’m complaining a little now, but I really love that my cats love to be close to me whatever I’m doing and let me know it. Please feel free to share your own stories of writer’s block in the comments section.

Kira is expert at both the blocking-my-view and anchoring-the-arm techniques. Since she is long haired, the plume of a tail that slides beneath my nose also serves to block my view of the laptop screen. If I work too late in the afternoon, she plants herself beside the laptop with her front paws and head on my left arm - that's the signal that it's almost dinner time and I had better STOP what I'm doing. Of course, I love having her company and fluffy comfort - another benefit of working from home!

0000000000000000000000000- 000000000

I have the same problem (as you can see) from the top line. My cat honey is always walking on my computer keyboard while I'm at the computer. She doesnt do this with anyone else in my family, just me. Sometimes she walks behind the music system, then the tv, across the desk and keyboard, then my lap. So here's to all the kitties and the ways they get our attention! Don't you just love it!
