Bucky on a happier day. |
At 3:40 on Easter Sunday, the earth decided to roll for about 25 seconds. I had just finished serving Easter dinner to my friends and was getting ready to make coffee. We were standing around the table ready to serve dessert, when we started rolling, the chandelier was swinging, and we all waited for what seemed like an eternity for it to stop.
My three cats, however, did not seem very affected by this quake. In other quakes, the cats have reacted a lot more. When we found out the epicenter was a couple hundred miles away, it made sense they weren’t too traumatized. In fact, shortly after the quake, Zooey went back to snoozing away on the couch.
I had a pet sit scheduled with Bucky Monday evening and stopped by his house around 5:30. He wasn’t downstairs like he usually is, but I could hear him meowing upstairs. I went upstairs and found him sitting in the office chair. The filing cabinets had opened during the quake, and he seemed very upset.
After I sat with Bucky, talking to him and petting him, I was able to determine he was fine. I was afraid he might have been hit by one of the drawers, but I think he was just scared. He finally followed me downstairs after some encouragement and shortly was back to his old self.
I felt bad leaving him, but also wanted to get back to my own home. I told Bucky he was fine and everything was safe now. This will be one earthquake I think we’ll all remember for some time to come. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Mexico where the quake was centered.
