I have been taking care of Precious and her brother, Max, for several years now. Max has always been very friendly and affectionate, but Precious is one of those kitties that is rarely seen by anyone but her owner.
The last time I took care of Precious and Max, when I looked for Precious I found her under the bed -- one of her usual hiding spots. She looked like she wanted to come out, but didn’t. The sit lasted several days and by day 5, Precious was out from under the bed and let me pet her for a few seconds.
I started sitting for Max and Precious again a few days ago, and when I looked for Precious, I found her in the closet. But this time, she let me pet her…and pet her…and pet her. It was a breakthrough!
The next day was the same story, and she even put her butt up in the air so I could pet her back. She rolled over and let me pet her stomach. And then I heard it and felt it – she was purring like crazy. I was able to get a picture of her letting me pet the side of her face.
I couldn’t wait to tell her pet mom about the change in behavior. Every day since has been the same, and last night she wasn’t even hiding in the closet. It only took two years, but I finally won Miss Precious over. She is now my new best kitty friend!
