Suzanne Stowe blogs about a catty dilemma - the more than 300 kitty-themed items around her house.

Siamese door decoration
Being a cat lover, I’m naturally drawn to beautiful cat items. Over the years, I’ve collected many special cat figurines, pictures, clothes, picture frames and almost anything else you can think of that a cat can decorate.  This has become a bit of a problem because  I don’t have room to display all of my great cat items.  I probably have more than 300 cat items in my possession — which is probably 200 too many!

Siamese needlepoint
My friends have contributed to my dilemma. Every holiday and birthday, I am given more beautiful cat items. I have started telling people to stop giving me cat things. That helped a little, but for my recent birthday, I received three new cat items: a cat mug, a cat cutting board and cat magnets.

I’m moving in about a month, and will have to divest myself of a few of my kitty things. It will be a tough process for me, but I don’t see any reason to move boxes of cat things from one location to another. I’m going to donate them to a local charity and hope that the kitty items find a good home with someone else.

Cat figurines
I’ve been guilty of doing the same things to my friends — buying them too many cat things because they love cats.  Since I have reached my capacity, I’ve backed off on doing that and now check with them before I get them any more kitty things.

Do you have the same catty problem?  How have you dealt with it?

Since I'm a cat lover, too, I love to collect cat things whether they be items or clothing. I still find room for such things but I seem to be a collector for live kitties, too. My heart goes out to the strays and ferals that looks starved and mal-nourished.

Sounds like us cat lovers are all in the same boat! I really think about buying a new cat item. I will have it in my hand and think of my house and say to myself "Where am I going to put it?" If I can't come up with a place, I usually will put it back. I collect tuxedo kitty stuff, however, have a ton of other kitty stuff. It is down to selective selection as I have no more room for any more stuff! I would donate my stuff to a cat shelter, as some I know of, sell things at the shelter to make extra money.

I only get cat stuff I really love, that I can afford! Everything else I like but can't have because I have no place to put it or it's too expensive, I put in my wish list - usually via a picture on my computer for me to occasionally gaze at and admire, or sometimes a picture ripped from a magazine or catalog put in a file. Cuts down on my clutter, but I still have a cat cluttered brain!

I agree about having a yard sale and donating the money to a charity. Maybe even have a CC Online Yard Sale for all of us cat lovers - you know the items would go to good homes! I too have way too many cat items and am trying to figure out how to decrease my collection. I decided that anything "cheap and childish" would go. I decided to keep my favorite, high quality items only. I also decided that any further collecting will be of my favorite orange cat items only. I will also try and collect only ceramic pieces by my favorite maker. Notice I said "decided"? I haven't actually gotten around to cleaning out the clutter quite yet. I will though. It is just hard to part with some of the stuff!
