I got the call to take care of two pets for a client that was new to me. They had a kitty and a special needs dog. I set up a time to meet the owners and the pets before I was scheduled to spend three nights at their home.
I arrived at the client’s home and met Cedar, a pretty lab mix who has a history of seizures. Then I heard a small meow and there was Jasmine. Jasmine is a very petite Abyssinian. Her story was an interesting one.
Jasmine’s original owner moved out of state. Jasmine was left behind and the former owner’s boyfriend was charged with taking care of her. My client, Bekka, lived next door and realized Jasmine was not getting the care she deserved. Bekka talked the boyfriend into giving her Jasmine. It took a few months for Jasmine to trust people again because she had been left basically alone in her apartment for over a month.
Bekka worked with Jasmine and she is now a sweet, loving kitty. Jasmine loves her treats and loves to be petted. Her favorite spots are high like the top of the refrigerator or even higher.
Bekka did not know that Jasmine was an Abyssinian until she took her in for a veterinary checkup. She was surprised to find out she was a purebred cat.
Jasmine is the smallest adult cat I have ever seen. My Siamese, Baby, is on the small side but he is probably twice the size of Jasmine. She looks to me like she weighs about 3 pounds. She is very healthy, though, and her size suits her just fine.
I had a wonderful time staying with Cedar and Jasmine. Cedar slept with me at night and Jasmine let me know when she wanted attention or a few treats by meowing and purring. I’m so happy she found her forever home with such a great family. She deserves to be well cared for and loved.
