Gracie dislikes fireworks, but will she dislike the alternatives more? |
Last year on the 4th of July, Gracie tried to be brave during the fireworks. I’m sure when she ran shrieking into the closet, she was only looking for a gun so she could fire back. Does your cat freak out on this night, too? Here are some things guaranteed to calm her.
The Warm Bath, Etc.: Want to keep your cat calm on the 4th? Some experts suggest giving her a bath with aroma-therapy shampoo. Followed by a tummy rub. This is ironic. These same “experts” are currently being followed by mental health professionals. Who want them in psycho-therapy. ASAP!
There’s Something On My Tail!: Try tying something noisy onto your cat’s tail the day before the holiday. This will get your pet use to loud sounds and kitty may sleep during the fireworks. Of course, she’ll then be so used to this contraption, she won’t be able to sleep without it. And, with the noise it makes, you won’t be able to sleep! This plan, admittedly, needs some work.
Mild Sedation: Often, an antihistamine or something your vet prescribes, can chill out your cat. Of course, the cat may get so high on it, she might feel like leaving home and going to Bonnaroo. That’s what’s known as a side effect.
Friendly Distraction: It’s not a bad idea to have some friends over on the 4th and let them distract your cat. Perhaps one of them can tell her about last year’s fireworks. When he comes to an exciting part, tell him not to yell “Kapow!” This will defeat the entire purpose.
