Gracie didn't run when I took this picture. Amazing but true. |
I once mentioned, you might remember, that Gracie won’t stand for anyone taking her picture. No, cheeky readers, she won’t sit for anyone taking her picture, either. Why? Was her previous owner a compulsive shutterbug? Who had my cat pose all day in odd little outfits? Well, I finally got a few pix snapped. It was easy, once I explained to Gracie that I only bought the little cowgirl costume as a joke.
I knew I had a chance when I arrived home one evening. Gracie’s always waiting to suddenly spring at me, sending my heart spiraling into atrial fibrillation. It’s hard to take her picture when she’s so agitated. This night, she wasn’t around however. Still, walking around, looking for her, was spooky. There was a scene like that in “Alien,” and you know the horrible thing that followed. That’s right: “Alien 4: The Resurrection.”
Four rooms, no Gracie. (“In space. no one can hear you scream!”)
I checked the bathroom, where she often eats after catching a mouse. I hate to think she’s weighing it on the scale first. Too creepy.
Finally, I heard sighing in my bedroom — a sound unheard there since the Bush administration. Gracie was on the bed. I walked in and picked up my camera. Gracie didn’t run. I got my shot. Fantastic. Plus, no mice were injured in the making of this picture.
I thought about doing a series, except my cat wasn’t moving. So there would be the redundancy factor. I put the camera down and walked out, remembering that with Gracie, you take what you can get.
