Do All Cats Shed?

CatChannel veterinary expert, Arnold Plotnick, DVM, says most cats shed, except a certain breed.

By Arnold Plotnick, DVM

Dr. Plotnick answers a question about which types of cats shed the least
Sphynx cats are hairless. No hair, no shedding!
Q: I just wanted to know what type of cat does not shed.

A: Almost all cats shed. Some cats shed more than others, however. Siamese, Burmese and Tonkinese cats have no undercoat, so they tend to not shed so much.

Cornish and Devon Rex cats have an undercoat, but no outer guard hairs, so they also shed less.

Of course, if you truly want a cat that does not shed at all, well, there’s always the Sphynx. They are hairless. No hair, no shedding!

Hi and thanks for letting me comment on this. My daughter found a disabled kitten 2 years ago. He had Xrays and a CScan done, they found a tumour on his spine.

This cat DOES NOT SHED. HE IS GREY/BLUE/SILVER, AND WHITE. I guess he is just a anomily. I have a question though, does his skin need to be washed? (as in bath)

A hairless cat? Hmm, don't know about that. We got cats because they are great for a warm and fuzzy cuddle... :-)
