Do All Cats Shed?

CatChannel veterinary expert, Arnold Plotnick, DVM, says most cats shed, except a certain breed.

By Arnold Plotnick, DVM

Sphynx cats are hairless. No hair, no shedding!
Q: I just wanted to know what type of cat does not shed.

A: Almost all cats shed. Some cats shed more than others, however. Siamese, Burmese and Tonkinese cats have no undercoat, so they tend to not shed so much.

Cornish and Devon Rex cats have an undercoat, but no outer guard hairs, so they also shed less.

Of course, if you truly want a cat that does not shed at all, well, there’s always the Sphynx. They are hairless. No hair, no shedding!

A hairless cat? Hmm, don't know about that. We got cats because they are great for a warm and fuzzy cuddle... :-)
