Cheque Drops (manufactured by Upjohn Co.) can be given daily on a body-weight basis to temporarily prevent estrus in female cats. Delvosteron, a member of the progestin family, is an injectable substance that is manufactured in Europe. The use of drops and injections for birth control is not specified in the drug labeling itself (in veterinary terms, this is called an extra-label use of a particular drug). Estrus in female cats is prevented with injections given approximately twice a year. Delvosteron, which can be imported, is the leading birth control method used abroad.
