one of the best I have read on this subject! This article is full of DO's more than DONT's. And it really gives a positive picture of a curious, active and intelligent little creature, and never presents her as a destructive nuisance who lives to claw the furniture, shred the curtains and jump on the dining room table.

The article Kitten Proof your Home really ended with the title. It states the obvious as in the title but offers no suggestions or tips in how to do that.

For you readers who offered some tips...THANKS!

I just got a kitten a couple months ago and she is learning real quick to stay out of of danger zones with one squirt from a water bottle. I have been consistent when she has her freedom to roam each room and she it has only taken a couple squirts and she gets it.

there are also wonderful products out there to help, too, like plastic cord guards that slip around appliance cords that you really can't avoid having exposed, that are double sided so kitten can't chew or get tangled up or hang himself. Also I'd think knowing the breed you're bringing home well will give you a general idea of what kinds of things work better as a deterrent as a starting point to see what can save one kitten and not even phase another one.
