Perhaps I worry too much as a parent, not all together uncommon for those of us with CKS kittens. Dr. Mebalz, however, does console me with his belief that there is hope for the future.

"CKS is so prevalent we are not sure what exactly to do. Our early findings show symptoms seem to lessen after about 10 to 12 months for many CKS kittens," he said. "Of course, there are always relapses and flare-ups. In the meantime I recommend all family members get involved with support groups like KA Kittens Anonymous. Remember, the first step is always admit you are powerless."

Yes, so true. Powerless over a crazed and spastic kitten, I readily admit. For now, I'll learn to adapt and live with CKS. Time is on my side ... and wearing earmuffs on the couch isn't so bad.

I have a 10 year old adult cat that STILL goes into CKS from time to time. She takes off running through the house, sliding on the hardwood floors and then jumping and chasing her older sister. I don't think they grow out of it. Hilarious to watch!!

I just adopted a 7 month old kitten from our local Humane society, foolishly thinking she would be done with CKS, but sure enough we go to bed and she starts hullucinating and I find a little furball attacking the evil monster under the blankets - or rather my leg.

Thank you for the enlightening article, my little fellow keeps me up at night worrying if something is wrong with him. The things we would like for him to avoid (dangerous) are the things he is drawn to. My husband, a smoker, left his half smoked cig. in the ash tray-only to find our little man lying on his back with the cig. in his mouth. Do they like to take up bad habits, I'm worried he'll start drinking next. Hide the wine.

i loved this!!! we have 2 six month old kittens and they have crazy time twice a day. our older cats passed on a year ago and we thought it was time for new kittens. what we forgot was the craziness. they really aren't so bad...pull down towels from the towel racks, climb into the christmas tree and now seem to have taken and hidden an advent calendar person.
this really made us put everything into perspective. and all the comments made us realize we didn't get 'oddballs'
merry christmas!
