Kitten History: Russian Blue

Luminous green eyes and a silver-tipped coat confer a singular beauty upon this kitten.

Russian Blue © Helmi FlickThe Russian Blue is captivating, without question. His short, dense coat is soft to the touch, and his lithe body shows regal bearing. Some cat lovers believe this royal demeanor reflects the Russian Blues heritage.

While some believe the Russian Blue is descended from the royal cats kept by Russian Czars, the true origin of this breed remains a mystery. Many believe the breed originates from the Archangel Isles in northern Russia. Legend tells us that the cats were brought from the Isles to Northern Europe and England in the 1860s.

From wherever they originally hailed, Russian Blues made their exhibition debut at the Crystal Palace in 1875, shown together with other blue-coated breeds. In 1912, the Russian Blue received its own class; some of the cats subsequently made their way to the United States. The breed began gaining popularity in the 1960s, and is today a favorite in both the show ring and the pet home.

Hi, I wanted to share with you how I got my Russian Blue. During the worst drought Texas has ever seen wild fires burned millions of acres. A fireman found my sweet girl. She was burned in places but alive. A couple fostered her but couldn't keep her so I inherited my beautiful kitty. One question I have is my R.Blue has longer fur. A vet told me that she was R. Blue because she had one. She has all of the other characteristics. Is this a different line of Russian Blues?

I have a Russina Blue , named Frisco, he is 13 years old. We got Frisco and his litter mate Boston in Frisco, Texas, where we were living. Boston died when she was about three years old. The cause of death was unknown; the vet tested her for feline leukemia; her skin had lost elasticity and she was not eating. Frisco is very healthy and is a fatastic pet. Our Puggles love him and they all get alonf very nicely

Hopefully Connie will get her cat spayed to help with the pet overpopulation problem and people looking for a pet will adopt from an animal shelter or rescue group and not buy from someone trying to sell their pet on this website.
