What was the reason for your most recent pet store “impulse” purchase?
I liked the special display
I watched a demonstration
Someone in store recommended it
The item was on sale
The item had a promotion I liked
It was a new item I wanted to try
I liked the way it looked
I didn’t make an impulse purchase

Sweet Sophistication

By Elisa Jordan

Many people have a certain depiction of cats in their minds: Cats look elegant and move with an athletic grace reminiscent of a ballet dancer or gymnast. Most cats carry themselves with a particular brand of calm dignity. Now, picture that cool cat laughing heartily at itself, and you get an idea of the essence of the Oriental. Like a beautiful actress who takes a cream pie in the face for the sake of making the audience laugh, the Oriental, too, is every bit as lovely as it is lovable.

“They have a good sense of humor,” says New York-based breeder Lynn Von Egidy, who has bred Orientals since the mid-1970s. “The Orientals will laugh with you. If they do something funny, they might even repeat it just to see you get the enjoyment from it.”
