Cat Vaccinations

By Ramona Marek

The American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) and the Academy of Feline Medicine (AFM) Advisory Panel have established guidelines regarding feline vaccinations. The guidelines are divided into two categories, “core,” highly recommended for all cats and “non-core,” recommended for some cats based on individual need.

Susan Little, president of the Winn Feline Foundation, says, “All cats should receive the core vaccines (FVR/C/P) and rabies as mandated by local laws. But regarding non-core vaccines for FIV and FIP she says, “they are controversial and are not recommended by all
feline specialists.”
