Born to Win: Rescue becomes show champion.

The dogs wouldn't stop barking, but Jeanne Dickerson had no idea what awaited her in the basement one cold November morning.

"They still had their umbilical cords attached," she says about the two orphan kittens she'd found abandoned in her window well. The staff at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa warned her that the kittens could not survive without their mother and offered to euthanize them. But Dickerson refused to give up. With detailed advice from the ARL and a little ingenuity of her own, she and her 6-year-old son Jon immediately became mother cats.

I wish more people would do this. It takes a lot of work and you don't always win but it's worth the risk
