Cats have been worshiped by ancient civilizations, been the companions to numerous spiritual figures and been made the subject of many sacred legends and fables. Prophet Muhammad, the founder of Islam, was an acknowledged cat lover as was Confucius, the founder of the Confucian religion. When Pope Benedict XVI recently confessed that he adored cats, his statement had a ripple effect around the world, prompting other current religious principals to publicly reaffirm their furry affection.
