Transition to a multi-cat household in 6 easy steps.

Moving in with someone is a big step. Suddenly, what’s yours is “ours” and your space becomes “our” space. Couples, friends and college roommates all experience moving anxiety. Now add to that stress your feline friends. Moving is tough enough for Kitty, but what about moving in with a strange human and an unfamiliar cat?

In short, it spells trouble. “Cats are extremely territorial,” says Amy Dicke, technical services veterinarian for The Iams Company. Both cats think they own the house and everything in it. You can imagine the stress that’s caused when these cats meet up. Can you
say, “catfight?”

Luckily, you can take several measures to prevent these territorial mishaps and make the transition from a single-cat to a multi-cat home much easier.
