Greek Tragedy

The plight of Greece’s strays

By Ruth MacPete, DVM

When people think of Greece, they might picture ancient ruins and sun-drenched islands. Visitors to this beautiful country rarely are disappointed, but, sadly, many also leave with memories of countless neglected stray animals. Everywhere in the Grecian landscape, from the bustling city of Athens to the tranquility of the islands, homeless animals dot the landscape. Although cats basking on ancient ruins make for picture-perfect postcards, the image belies the difficult lives these cats endure and the magnitude of the problem.

May cats EVERYWHERE be shown kindness, compassion, and love. That is my most heartfelt daily prayer.
