Do Cats Go to Heaven?

What various cultures believe about cats and the afterlife.

By Sandy Robins

Thanks to good nutrition, state-of-the-art medicine and lifestyle innovations, today’s cats live longer than ever. Yet no matter how much time we have to enjoy their company, it’s never enough. Sooner or later cat lovers find themselves asking the same question: What happens to our beloved felines after they die?

Although The Bible does not give us a specific answer to this question, as a cat rescuer and theology major, I am firmly convinced that cats go to Heaven. Here is why:

When God created this world, He also lovingly created each and every animal (Gen. 1). Life itself requires the presence of a soul (Gen. 2)- a self-contained spiritual entity that inhabits a physical body, but is more than just the body. The soul is the unique personal identity of a unique lifeform that exists long after the body dies. One only has to look into the eyes of a cat to see that there is a creature of great intellect and insight living behind those eyes. Our cats' personalities reflect the very essence of their souls, as all cat lovers know that no two cats are ever exactly alike.

The Bible tells us that Death entered the world because of Mankind's sin. This means that humans, animals, and all life once lived in a world where there was no death. Humans and animals could live forever in perfect harmony with each other and with God.

No one was ever meant to go to Heaven, but when Death entered the world, Heaven was established as the temporary home for the soul until the work of God's Redemption of Man is completed.

Indeed, all life returns to the Creator. In fact, the only creation of God not assured of making the trip is Man, which is why the Bible focuses on how Man can be saved. I know that I will be there (see John 3:16), and I know that, whenever I stand over the grave of one of my cats, or look upon their urns in my home, I can be assured that they are not gone. I know that I will see them again, that we will share together in the new world to come.

Having read the article I remembered this story. It only mentions a dog but..
An old man and his dog were walking along a country road, enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to the man that he was actually dead. He remembered dying, and that his dog had been dead for many years. He wondered where the road would lead them, and continued on.

After a while, they came to a white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill he saw a tall white arch in the wall. When he was standing before it, he saw a gate in the arch that looked like mother of pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold.
He was glad that he had finally arrived at heaven, and the man and his dog walked toward the gate. As he got closer, he saw someone sitting at a beautifully carved desk off to one side. When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, but is this heaven?"
"Yes, it is, sir," the man answered.
"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.
"Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up." The gatekeeper gestured and the huge gate began to open.
"I assume my friend can come in?" the man asked, gesturing toward his dog.
But the reply was "I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."
The man thought about it then thanked the gatekeeper, turned back toward the road, and continued in the direction he had been going.
After another long walk, he reached the top of another long hill, and he came to a dirt road that led through a farm gate.
There was no fence, and it looked as if the gate had never been closed, as grass had grown up around it. As he approached the gate, he saw a man just inside, sitting in the shade of a tree in a rickety old chair, reading a book.
"Excuse me!" he called to the reader. "Do you have any water?"
"Certainly, There's a pump over there," the man said, pointing to a place that couldn't be seen from outside the gate. Come on in and make yourself at home."
"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog "He's welcome too, and there's a bowl by the pump," he said.

Yes I think they go to heaven. God created them, so they have a soul like us.I do think some cats do revisit us after they have passed.
