When I'm not answering questions for CatChannel.com's Ask the Expert column or writing articles for CAT FANCY, I run a busy feline-exclusive veterinary practice in New York City. It's a hectic schedule. In trying to avoid a life of all work and no play, last November, I treated myself to a long-awaited vacation to Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Santiago, Chile.

After 14 hours of air travel, I started my sightseeing bright and early the morning after I arrived with a walking tour of Monserrat, Buenos Aires' oldest neighborhood. As I passed some of the city's most beautiful Beaux Arts and Art Nouveau buildings, I arrived at the Plaza del Congreso. The plaza houses the Monumento a los Dos Congresos, a monument commemorating the meetings in Buenos Aires in the early 1800s that achieved the country's independence.
