CAT FANCY Editor's Note

Out of Office

One of my busiest travel seasons began during production of this issue. Editing a magazine in a noisy airport, on a plane during turbulence, from a hotel room and in a crowded convention center media office has its challenges. Like one of my cats taken out of her environment, I longed for my familiar routine. But, if we were going to get the magazine out on time, I had to let that go and embrace new ways of getting things done. Thanks to numerous communication technologies, there's more than one way to accomplish the same goal. And fortunately for those of us who have to travel, there are multiple options for leaving our cats in the best care while we're away.
If taking your cat on an airplane or road trip is not for you, or you can't find a pet sitter, Shannon Burrows explores alternatives: boarding facilities that cater to cats. If you're longing for a meaningful vacation that makes a difference, check out Sandy Robins' story on organizations that offer opportunities to help cats big and small.
