CAT FANCY

"I've been a critter lover all my life," says singer Kellie Pickler. And her fans know that. After Pickler's sixth-place finish on American Idol in 2006, her career took off. Today, she's one of country music's most successful performers. She's also a fun interview - and a regular on TV talk shows, which often featured stories about her cat, Pickles.

"The first thing I did after moving to Franklin, Tenn., was to go to the shelter," she explains. "I admit, I went there for a dog and walked out with a kitten. I saw this basket filled with kittens, and I thought, 'Oh my gosh, I've gotta have one.' Just like that the dog-thang went away. I sat down on the floor, and this little orange tabby picked me out. Pickles went everywhere with me."

Animal Endeavors
Pickler says she thinks cats are sometimes misunderstood. "There's all kinds of stuff going on in their heads," she says. "It's like they know all this stuff, and they're not telling us what they know."
