A carpeted blue monolith of a cat condo sits in Marlee Taylor’s Boulder, Colo., living room, occupying a prime piece of sunny real estate in her bay window. Curled on top in a curved, comfy cradle, Taylor’s Ragdoll, Louie, snoozes, occasionally opening his eyes to survey the landscape from his favorite perch.
If this cat had any sense of style, he’d know “Big Blue,” as Taylor calls it, doesn’t quite fit in.
Taylor’s home’s décor melds post-modern style with traditional practicality, but Louie’s cat condo takes that practicality over the top. Taylor’s preference for clean lines and a neutral palate calls for a piece of cat furniture that echoes that same style, but six years ago, the homeowner’s only option was a cumbersome carpeted climbing contraption. Today, that’s no longer the case.
