Spring cleaning is a time for sprucing up your home and getting ready for summer. But before you start scrubbing floors and washing windows, take a minute to consider your cat.
Although the scent of pine cleaner might elicit memories of your grandmother’s spotless kitchen, it’s definitely not what you want to smell in a cat’s home.
“Cleaning products that contain phenols or benzyl alcohols are highly toxic to cats and should not be used,” says North Canton, Ohio, holistic veterinarian Pamela Fisher. “Phenols and benzyl alcohols are water-soluble and rapidly absorb into the cat’s body, causing liver damage.”
