According to legend, the Manx arrived almost too late to board the ark, racing aboard just before Noah slammed the boat’s large door. The cat didn’t move quickly enough, and the door caught the cat’s tail, permanently removing it. Although geneticists have determined that a spontaneous mutation is responsible for the Manx’s unique tailless nature, breeders such as Joy Dey of New Jersey enjoy sharing the folklore surrounding the cat’s origins.
