45 tips for a cat-safe home

By Helen Jablonski

Indoor living keeps our cats safe from predators and traffic, but it's not without hazards of its own. Here are 45 tips to help keep your cat safe in every room of your house.

In the Kitchen
1.  Put secure lids on garbage cans or keep them out of reach.
2.  Carefully dispose of plastic wrap and aluminum foil containing food residue.
3.  Don't feed your cat people food. Some foods, including onions, garlic and sugar substitutes, are toxic to cats.
4.  Some cats like to chew on rubber dishwashing gloves. Don't leave them accessible to your cat.
5.  Close refrigerator, dishwasher and oven doors. Curious cats might explore inside.
