Look-Alike Winners Revealed
In the February 2006 issue of CAT FANCY, we announced a search for comparable cats and owners. We enjoyed reading about how you and your cats share certain traits, expressions and even some looks! You're sure to enjoy our top three favorite Look-Alike winners!
1st Prize
Patricia Young and Red Man (cat)
Vinton, Ohio
In March of 1996, a friend told me that her cat just had a litter of four longhaired orange kittens. I had secretly yearned for a little orange puffball for years but resisted the urge to ask for one. A few weeks later she brought the kittens to work. It was April 27 -- I knew it was a sign -- my birthday! I took one look at the first little guy out of the carrier, and I knew it was meant to be. I took him home that day and named him Sugar Bug Red Man.
Red Man has long, beautiful orange fur that almost matches my own hair color, and our eyes match too. Everybody in my family has blue eyes, but I have golden hazel eyes with tiny green flecks -- just like Red Man!
We also share high-maintenance hair. Until a few years ago, my hair reached my waist. The texture of Red Mans fur requires daily brushing, especially in the winter, when he turns into a huge orange puffball!
I still call him the best birthday present ever!
2nd Prize
Kelsy Chandler and Emmy (cat)
New Salisbury, Ind.
Emmy is a 10-month-old seal, bicolor Ragdoll. I fell in love with Emmys bright blue eyes, which all Ragdolls possess, but her eyes were the exact same color and shade as mine.
We use our blue eyes in case of emergencies, such as getting into trouble. Whenever we are caught doing something we should not be doing, we simply flash our eyes in the direction of our accuser and our discretions are forgotten.
We express our emotions in the same manner. When happy we let people know by cuddling and loving on them. However, when we are unhappy, we don't want anything to do with anyone.
If we taste something we do not like, we both crinkle up our noses, and make the same distasteful face and shake our heads back-and-forth like it will help get the taste out of our mouths. However, when we find something we do like to eat, we chow it down as fast as we can.
Emmy and I are very perky in the mornings and fatigued at night. Often times, early in the night, we fall asleep on the couch together. We are definitely early-to-bed, early-to-rise personalities.
We love hanging out together because our personalities and looks are so similar; we are a great match!
3rd Prize
Darcy Seagraves and Abby Morgan (cat)
Philadelphia
My mother always called me her little redhead. The day I was first placed in her arms, a stream of sunlight illuminated my red hair, like a shiny, new, copper penny, she would say.
We lost my father at a young age. As a result, our little family of my mother, sister, our Siamese cat and me was close-knit. When my mother died in 1996, the loss devastated me.
Several months after my mothers passing, my husband suggested we visit a local cat show to look at tree perches. As my husband bargained with the maker of a behemoth perch, I wandered the rows of exquisite cats and I saw a little redhead with fur like a shiny, new copper penny. I felt that this Abyssinian princess 5-months-old was my girl the moment I laid eyes on her. I held the red-haired beauty and placed her in my husbands arms. She purred for him the first and last time. It was clear who was her person. We named her Morgan and adopted her. Morgan is very perceptive and influential, a lot like me.
I am a therapist by trade and Morgan is my therapy cat, although she does not practice professionally. She seems to possess the uncanny awareness to perceive emotions both animal and human, giving unconditional warmth, empathy and relationship. Her loving presence helped me to heal from the loss of my mother. Born the week my mother died, she is 10 years old now and is my soul mate. I love all my girls, but I feel that Morgan was sent to me for a special reason.
