On Oct. 4, the Beastie Boys, Marshall Crenshaw, Debbie Harry and many other animal-loving musical acts will perform to benefit New York City’s local animal rescue groups and homeless companion animals. The concert, held at the Hiro Ballroom in the Maritime Hotel, is the brainchild of Rational Animal and the ASPCA, and is planned as an annual reminder of the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals to have all city shelters become “no-kill” by 2010.
“New York can be a model for cities nationwide, and the fact that we’ve taken this on is a major step for homeless animals everywhere,” says Susan Brandt, founder of Rational Animal. “Gimme Shelter is one way of celebrating the hard work of the rescue community and to help keep the spirit and the animals alive as we move toward the no-kill goal.”
Tickets for the event are on sale now. General admission tickets are $50, VIP admission costs $150, and VIP tables for six to seven people are available for $875. Shelter and rescue workers can receive special discounts.
