Popular breeds, such as the Siamese, will gather at the CFA-Iams Cat Championship.More than 300 cats from across the country will gather at Madison Square Garden in New York City Oct. 14 and 15 to compete for the Best in Show title. The 2006 CFA-Iams Cat Championship will showcase America’s finest pedigreed cats while also highlighting the 100th anniversary of the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA).

The cat competitors will represent 41 different breeds, from the popular to the less common. Cat fanciers will see all-time favorites, such as the Maine Coon, Persian and Siamese, as well as some more unusual but equally loveable cats, such as the American Curl, Cornish Rex, Japanese Bobtail and Sphynx.

One of the highlights of the event will be the Feline Agility Competition. The competition features a series of obstacles, such as tunnels, stairs, poles and jumps. The reigning champion is Wyndchymes Intrigue of Hajja, a Japanese Bobtail who navigated the course in just 17 seconds when he was 6 months old.

Show doors open at 10 a.m., both Saturday and Sunday, with general admission costing $15 per day. For more information about the championship show, visit the Cat Fanciers’ Association website at

I signed my cat, Rose, up. She's a Main Coon, and I hope she wins!
