Fat Cat Becomes Media Darling as Former Owner Laments Giving Him Up
It's the economy, cat lovers. The owner of a 44-pound feline who wound up in a New Jersey animal shelter said she was forced to give up the titanic tabby when the bank foreclosed on her home. Donna Oklatner, 65, denied reports she just dumped the big ball of fluff she called Powder — who's become a paws célèbre, the New York Daily News reports.

"Eor was plucked right from the flood waters," said Linda Linford, executive director at the Naperville Area Humane Society, said of the adult tortoiseshell cat now residing at the shelter.
