It's the economy, cat lovers. The owner of a 44-pound feline who wound up in a New Jersey animal shelter said she was forced to give up the titanic tabby when the bank foreclosed on her home. Donna Oklatner, 65, denied reports she just dumped the big ball of fluff she called Powder — who's become a paws célèbre, the New York Daily News reports.

"Eor was plucked right from the flood waters," said Linda Linford, executive director at the Naperville Area Humane Society, said of the adult tortoiseshell cat now residing at the shelter. Why didnt you tell everyone the 44 lbs cat was a "Turkish Vann" I own one and they ARE WONDERFUL

I think that woman should have been charged with animal cruelty for overfeeding her cat, the one who lost her home. That is outrageous to have let the poor baby get THAT fat. And it IS cruelty, when there are so many things one can do to prevent it or treat obesity in cats, certainly before it had got that far.
