Humane Society University will conduct a workshop called “First Strike: Connecting Domestic Violence and Animal Cruelty” in San Diego. The goal of the workshop is to train social workers, law enforcement, family service, animal protection professionals, educators, the general public and even non-animal caretakers to recognize the connection between animal cruelty and domestic violence. Such training will help these professionals intervene before violence occurs.
The session will take place at the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA on August 19, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost of the workshop is $60. Registrations will be accepted until August 5. Topics include:
- The connection between interpersonal violence and animal cruelty
- Animal cruelty investigations and safe haven programs
- Domestic violence dynamics
- Tales kids tell
- Building community collaborations
