Rabid Kitten Found in Pennsylvania
The Pennsylvania Department of Health seeks information about a rabid kitten’s origin to ensure no further risk to humans or animals.
A second kitten has tested positive for rabies in York County, the Pennsylvania Department of Health Confirmed this week.

The calico kitten was found Aug. 6 in the Seven Valleys area of southern York County, at the intersection of Union Church and Reynolds Mill roads in Springfield Township. A local resident took the kitten home.

The kitten appeared ill at that time, health officials said, and died Aug. 9. The department of health is seeking information about the kitten’s origin to ensure there is no risk to humans or other animals.

In June, a black kitten tested positive for rabies after it was dropped off at a farm in York County.

Anyone who may have information is urged to call the York County State Health Center at 717-771-4505 or the Pennsylvania Department of Health at 877-724-3258. As of Tuesday, no new information was available about the rabies cases, said Holli Senior, health department spokeswoman.

Touching or handling a potentially rabid animal does not constitute exposure unless a person has been bitten or scratched. Under these circumstances, immediate medical attention should be sought.

Goodness, how sad. I hope that the agencies can find out where these poor kittens came from.

I remember the story on the kittens. I guess the mama kitty hasn't been found yet either! That's a sad story and pray no one nor other animals get infected with the rabies.
