Kittens in Wall Startle Homeowners
A couple who moved into a suburban Phoenix home said they were startled to hear the cries of a litter of 3-week-old kittens stuck in a wall. Bob and Laura Hawkins said they discovered their unexpected roommates two weeks ago, KTAR.com (Arizona) reports.

Kitten Recovered From Under Car’s Hood
Wonderland Auto employee Mason Buddy got the surprise of his life recently when a tiny, malnourished kitten was found hiding in an engine compartment of a used car on his lot. Found cuddled up behind the engine block of a used Toyota, Buddy said the 5- to 6-week-old kitten appeared frightened and was merely skin and bones to the touch, The Daily Item (Massachusetts) reports.

Animal Advocates Decry Failure to Audit County Shelter
Activists were thrilled in August 2005 when the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors approved an independent audit of its aging, bunker-like animal shelter. Three years later, the same advocates are howling mad. No audit has been done, and conditions at the facility continue to deteriorate, they say, with the shelter on Bradshaw Road putting to death half of the animals it takes in, The Sacramento Bee reports.
