The Cat Fanciers’ Association will host the sixth annual CFA-Iams Cat Championship Oct. 18-19 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Hundreds of cats representing 40 pedigreed cat breeds are expected to compete at the event.
Popular breeds that will be represented at the show include the Persian, Siamese, Maine Coon, American Shorthair, Cornish Rex, Sphynx and Ragdoll. One purebred cat will be crowned the best of 2008. Other show highlights include:
- Feline Agility Competition. Cats will compete by navigating a series of tunnels, mazes and stairs in the fastest time possible.
- Adopt-a-Cat. Homeless cats, selected by the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC Animals, will be available for adoption.
- Iams Trained Cats. Some of Hollywood’s most famous felines will perform on stage.
- Feline Shopping Mall. Vendors will display cat-themed gifts and items for pet cats, including cat condos, ID tags, interactive toys, jeweled cat collars, grooming aids, cat carriers and fine cat art and collectibles.
- Breed Showcase. Joan Miller, a leading authority on cats, will provide a guided tour of the cat breeds.
