Way Too Many Cats in North Idaho
The Kootenai Humane Society has a waiting list that’s 160 names long – but there are no would-be pet owners on it. Instead, it’s full of wouldn’t-be pet owners, people waiting to ditch their cats in the no-kill shelter in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, because they can’t or won’t care for the animals any longer. No other shelters in the region accept cats, so some pet owners are simply abandoning their animals, turning house cats into alley cats, which in turn lead to feral packs, the Associated Press reports.

Trapped so high in a pine tree that even a cherry-picker could not reach him, Salty the kitten has sparked a dramatic rescue on Australia’s Sunshine Coast. After three days stuck in the tree in the Cooroy cemetery, he was eventually rescued by an arborist brought in by the Sunshine Coast Council, the Courier Mail (Australia) reports.
