New to the cat show this year will be the Iams Trained Cats, known for their appearances in TV commercials. Returning to the event is the Feline Agility Competition Tournament, which challenges cats to navigate a series of tunnels and mazes in the fastest time possible.
Other returning favorites include:
- Adopt-A-Cat at the Garden – The Mayor’s Alliance of NYC Animals is hosting more than 16 shelter and rescue groups with dozens of cats and kittens seeking new homes. This event has been directly responsible for more than 700 cats and kittens being placed with qualified adopters.
- New York’s Largest Feline Shopping Mall – Feline products will be on display and available for purchase. Cat condos, cat-themed jewelry, pet ID tags, interactive exercise toys, colorful litterboxes and feeding bowls, art collectibles, grooming aids, cat carriers, cat trees, cat vitamins and feline supplements will be available for sale.
- Breed Showcase – Joan Miller, a Cat Fanciers’ Association leading feline authority, showcases a presentation of the CFA breeds, with information on the beauty, personality and history of the cats, each represented by a specially chosen feline delegate.
As a bonus this election year, the show will welcome Barack Obama, a Bombay cat, and an American Shorthair cat representing John McCain. These two cats will be campaigning as the “Purr-fect President.”
Other CFA-recognized breeds represented will be the Japanese Bobtail, American Curl, Maine Coon, Egyptian Mau, Ragdoll, Cornish Rex, Sphynx and Siamese.
